COONDOG QUILTS

Coon hunting is an old and time honored Southern tradition where men go out in the fall to let their prize hounds run through the woods in search of a raccoon. My sister Donna & I have been making Coondog Quilts in honor of our Dad, Arbon Wayne "RED" Waters, who was a coon hunting fanatic. All his dogs were named "Blue" no matter their color or breed. He very seldom killed anything, just went out with his buddies & listened to the dogs run. I can still remember him coming in late at night, smelling of the cold & woods, talking about how some wily old coon gave Blue a run for his money before going to tree. He could tell all his dogs apart by sound of their bark alone & know if they were running or barking "treed". The quilt on the left is mine & the one on the right is Donna's.

Love you Dad, and still miss you every day

Some of my best memories are of Daddy and his dogs . . . not all of them good either! Remember whan he refused to sell old Blue for $3000 and the next week the dog hung himself trying to jump out of the pen? Or when Daddy lost his dog in south Alabama . . . and it came stumbling home 3 weeks later - skin and bones? I remember Daddy laying an old coon dog on the kitchen table in the dead of winter. It had gotten clawed by a bobcat and he threw it in the creek so the frigid water would help stop the bleeding. He brought it home and sewed it up with Mom's needle and thread on the table we ate on, lol.I miss that old fart . . I truly do. Although it aggrivated me no end when he did it . . I would give anything to hear him drive up in the yard and lay down on the horn demanding attention. RIGHT THAT MINUTE!

You and Vicki got it right. I still remember running dogs in the creek behind your house Donna and Daddy telling his dogs "talk to me" as we trampled through the woods. That one time was the only time I went coon hunting with him, if we were boys he have made us. At least he knew his "girls" could do anything any boy could do because he taught us. I really miss him alot.

It's really very difficult in this full of activity life to listen news on TV, so I only use internet for that reason, and obtain the most recent information.

Hello! This is kind of off topic but I need some
advice from an established blog. Is it very difficult to set
up your own blog? I'm not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I'm thinking about setting up my own but I'm not sure where to start. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Thank you
